Asilah is a stylish coastal town with a fascinating history. It has a population of around 20,000.

When you arrive, what will strike you first are the impressive ramparts and turrets built by the Portuguese back in the 1500's.

The town has many wide avenues and a very pretty palm-lined boulevard. This is where you'll find some of the towns best restaurants, a lot of which are owned by Spanish owners. Some of the best well known include Casa Garcia, Casa Pepe and Al Kasabah. They serve superb excellent fish and sea fish dishes at a fraction of the price you'd pay in Europe. Asilah also has plenty of small cafes and a disco in the Hotel al Khaima.

The Medina in Asilah is home to many well-preserved blue and white houses.
There are also plenty of small Moroccan craft shops selling a variety of handicrafts.

Asilah has a delightful fishing port. It's the perfect place for a pleasant evening stroll. There are also plans to build a yacht marina. Tourism is definitely on the increase in Asilah. The mayor of Asilah is actually the Moroccan ambassador to the USA. During the 1970's he set up the annual summer Arts Festival attended by musicians, painters, poets and writers from all over the world. It has brought a lot of money into the town and had very positive effect on tourism. Nowadays, Asilah is an extremely clean and incredibly prosperous town.

You'll find all the modern facilities in Asilah that you'd find in a major city; banks, chemists, churches etc. along with numerous hotels and bars that are open to non residents and are always very friendly. There's a hospital too.

Once you arrive in Tangiers you can take the brand new motorway all the way to Asilah. It only takes around 30 minuetes. You can also take the more scenic costal route but it takes a bit longer.

Halfway between Tangiers and Asilah is the stunning Paradise Beach and Golf Resort. This is an absolute must for any golf lover. You can easily get a taxi from Tangiers to the resort, if you haven't hired a car. There is also a train service and a bus you can take.
